Appearance: Red-brown fuming liquid, volatilize when exposed to the air at room temperature and yield red-brown vapor.

Property: Density of liquid bromine at room temperature is 3.12g/cm3, 3.12times of water weight. When temperature falls down to -7.25°C, it coagulates to red-brown solid needle-crystal with slight metal-shine, of this solid bromine the density is 4.17-4.05g/cm3. Melting point and boiling point of bromine is -7.25°C and 58.75°C separately. It is easily dissolvable not only in organic solvent such as HBr and inorganic salt solution. Slight dissolvable in water.

Purpose:

Bromine is the basic chemical raw material for producing various bromic salts and organic bromines. It can be used as antiknock for petroleum fuel, greatly increases the performance of gasoline and eliminates deposit inside of the engine cylinder. In pharmaceutical field it can be used as raw material for producing ataractics such as NaBr, KBr, NH4Br and ClBr and antibacterials such as chloramphenicol, chlortetracycline and synthomycin, etc. Recently, bromine series of flame retardants develop dramatically. Plastic products after added FRs have a obvious increase in fireproofing performance. Bromine can also be used in dyestuff industry for producing eosin quadrabromo indigo, etc and in photograph and film industry silver bromide can be used as sensitization medicine. With time goes by, people’s consciousness of environmental protection is increasing and many mandatory ecological easures are issued. Cryogen is gradually replaced by ecological products such as LiBr.
